Started playing again, made a guy who looks like Michael Shannon.
Got Project Nevada and Arwens Realistic combat mod, as well a shitload of others, and boosted them all up to full realism, so it's proper hard now.
I can barely take on 2 radscorpions without breaking a limb,, and supermutants are a whole new level of dangerous.

Proper Fallout, in other words. I went energy weapons, repair and sneak, which is an odd combination. Lockpicking wasn't too necessary because the difficulty settings means there's barely any loot at all, and Project Nevada includes a fun feature where you can blow locks off doors with explosives for a risk of disabling whatever's inside.

Having good fun though. I think I've finally got my mods as I like them, so if anyone else starts a new game soon, I have some good ones to recommend.

Lay it on me.

I always begin playing NV and then stop because I've been down that road to Vegas so many times.

Don't y'all know about the shortcut over Black Mountain?

You can get to Vegas in like 5 minutes!

Wait how could the quarry be quicker? Don't you have to take the first left to the quarry and don't you walk further along and go right on that road to get to Black Mountain?

Also I refuse to handle Deathclaws without some decent weapons. You must be mad to even try that surely!

Out of interest, did anyone else play as a baby in the Fallout 3?

Yeah man I've seen it and it's fucked. Child-sized head, body and limbs stretched to adult proportions. F.U.C.K.E.D.

I got to Rivet City after what felt like years, it wasn't too bad as long as you use hotkeys to navigate your inventory as well as memorise and organise everything you own so you don't to see your Pip Boy. Yeah I gave up after that I just couldn't be fucked and by that time, I had played through everything a bajillion times anyway.

Bethesda's body models have freaked me out more than any David Cronenberg film.

Never found them creepy but I was playing New Vegas once, and it was like for a few seconds a switch was flipped in my head. I was talking to a dude and he just seemed so off and freaky.

Never happened to me before or since, barring that fucked up baby model.

I find their NPC's are drawn in very broad strokes. They just don't pay attention to little nuances like other games do.

For example, I was talking to a guy in Primm or somewhere and he just seemed odd, like you said. I realised it was because his voice didn't match his body at all, his voice was far too deep for someone with his frame. And I'm only noticing that because of some subconscious, evolutionary reflex, but it still took me out of it.
