Brief rest

Post by Guest on Thu Feb 10, 2011 2:13 pm

A light shines in the darkness that is my burden
It is only brief yet savoured
I know the light will soon fade again
While positive things over-shadow the demons
I savour my brief rest

Question - is this biographical or are you adopting the persona of someone with a 'burden' ?

I was severely depressed and was using the medium of poetry to convey my feelings and was hoping someone would notice...no-one did and my last poem "Singing to the air" is my response to that.
My positive feelings are currently covering my depression up so I am "happy" at the moment...at the moment.

Ah

It definately came across that way, so the poetry is clearly stellar in conveying your intentions.

When you say "someone would notice" did you mean us or have you been reading them to people IRL ?

Ah

I just popped into this subforum today and I was all "woah, poetry everywhere!"

Read 'em all. Singing to the Air was my favourite. Very affecting piece of writing - you have a gift for combining depth with brevity

Thanks.

No problem

You read much poetry from other people? I had to chose between Margaret Atwood and Anne Sexton last week for this year's A-level English Lit coursework.

I chose Atwood simply because everyone else chose Sexton (though only because Sexton, like Plath (author of The Bell Jar) went a bit stir-crazy and killed herself, which has nothing to do with our comparison between the poetry and the bell jar.) My classmates are sheeple, I tells ya!

I don't read other poetry really.

As a matter of interest, with the exception of Singing To The Air, because I told you what it meant, are you able to see what I am conveying with my other poems?

If it makes you feel any better, I did notice your stuff but couldn't think of anything constructive to say.

I'm not a poet, and I damn sure know it.

No, I meant I was hoping someone would notice the emotions behind the poetry.
Still, thanks for noticing the poetry at least.

Ah I see. I can relate to that feeling though. You want to express something but you don't just wanna come right out and say it. Sometimes it has to be illustrated in one way or another.

Yes.

I've been trying to do that myself. My art skills are...unpolished. So it doesn't quite look right.

Sorry I haven't got back to you yet

Yes, I understand what your poetry is saying to me (at least, at face value. Poems often have subconcious thingies and dowhatsits...)

Gazing, for example, speaks of the willfully monotonous repetition of daily life, and how it's so easy to change and yet we are so willing to just stick with what we got, even if we don't want to.
