Favourite Class?

Post by Xandy on Mon Oct 11, 2010 1:28 am

Out of the three most well known RPG classes ever (mage, warrior and rogue) which is your favorite? I like being a mage because of all the awesome magic abilities. However, I usually enjoy things best when I'm playing as a warrior because I can deal out damage without worrying about dying in one hit. Also, heavy weapons are freakin' sweet.

If the RPG doesn't have rogue reduced to simply a faster warrior that can't take as many hits then I prefer the rogue. Nothing like talking a group of people out of fighting then stabbing them in the back.

I don't really have any good experiences with rogues. The first time I ever played as a rogue was in Dragon Age, and I found the class to be very underpowered.

Considering Oblivion is the only game I own that I consider to be a RPG, I think Rogue or mage is the bestest.

Mage as you can become like a jedi super murderer what with the creating of your own spells.

Rogue as being a sneaky sneak makes stuff most fun.

It really depends what kind of RPG. If it's my kind of RPG, I play the rogue

I love playing Stealth games, and I love being a smooth talker that'll nick your change while talking you into sleeping with him, so I'll generally go for that combination as they both fit the rogue. However, many RPG's have shit-stealth. By that I mean, it let's you become invisible, and then you just go behind someone and stab them. As Manaman said, a warrior that is faster and has less health.

A real rogue emerges from the shadows, knocks you out, hides your corpse in a closet, then steals your shit. He doesn't dick around with dual-wield swords constantly trying to get behind a giant ogre so he can backstab him for the fifteenth time.

Mage, I like magic.

However it may depend.

For example, on Phantasy Star Universe I desire playing as a class that is half advanced warrior and half advanced mage.

I tend to use stealth and cunning to take down my enemy. So I guess Rogue would be my choice.

"War is maneuver and bloodshed. The more you maneuver, the less you demand in bloodshed."
Pretty much my motto with combat.

Mage, Warrior being a close second.

Also, LOL at the spellchecker not recognising "Mage". LOL

I play a warrior in pretty much everything.

Dragon age- Warrior, for the ability to use intimidation.
Oblivion- Everything but prefer warriors.
WoW- for the 2 days that I played this I liked the hunter class.
Maplestory- Warrior, despite them being so utterly underpowered.

Even in Fallout 3/new vegas, I max str/end, use melee weapons, heavy armor, and lean towards DT/MW DMG related perks.

Despite warrior being my thing, I've played every class at one point or another. Most games I play I have many characters at abysmal levels as opposed to one with a high lvl.

spied a pile of bones and feared to meet the kind of man who sat on such

I'm mostly a warrior. Sometimes I like to change things up, but mostly I like to just run in and fuck shit up.

I've played all three classes many times and it really depends on the game. For example the mage in Dragon Age isn't as powerful as I'd like, it feels like I'm just spamming the same spell over and over again, there's not much variety.

With Oblivion, on the other hand, for a full mage class I have my eight hotkey slots so I can actually formulate a strategy. Given how much I play Oblivion I'd say mage is my favourite.

Warrior.

Nothing makes you feel more overpowered than wearing impenetrable bullshit armor, having a metric ton of HP and being able to obliterate mooks with a casual sweep of an axe.

I always go for warrior on my first play through of a fantasy RPG. Usually a Dwarf or some viking-esque barbarian. (Which is why I'm wetting my knickers about Elder Scrolls V being set in Skyrim!)

I don't have the patience for magic, it's poncey Elven trickery if you ask me. I had to be coerced in to taking a runesmith with my Dwarf Warhammer army because I considered them too "magicky". (Although he has proved useful, I just use him to dispell anything that gets cast at my stumpy wee buggers.)

Oblvion - Rogue. Although I have been doing some Mage's quests etc but that's just to get into the Arcane University and steal all of their books so I can make an awesome bookshelf in my house. Or sell them. Either way, this character is rogue, through and through.
