Brought played and 100% Dishonored and the DLC's because I have nothing better to do when not at work and without internet.

Fun game, but short as a dick. 9 levels (1 of which is a tutorial) and the DLC is only 3 levels long too. Sure each level is multiple stages but I can't help but feel I got short changed, even though I paid around £17 for it all. Empathy to those who brought it at £40 release price.

Been having fun with this for the past couple days, despite being 12 years old it's as fun as ever and it's THE Occult/Paranormal Nazi game.

Have you tried the multiplayer yet? It's apparently the great grandaddy of both Brink and TF2 in a lot of ways. I almost grabbed it during the sale because of that.

One thing I hate about Dishonored is how the game gives you tons of cool toys that you get punished for using.

Disagree. I found the good playthrough to be shit gameplay and storywise and the evil run was far more rewarding.

Like, the difference in the final stage. So much more payoff if you kill. The only reason people will abstain from murder is for the achievements.

Man, the Last of Us is a really fucking good game.
It has been fucking with my emotions something shocking, games never do that shit. Probably the best voice acting and characterisation I've ever seen in a video game, and the storyline is really good. Gameplay rocks too. I was worried it would be too much like Uncharted, because Uncharted fucking sucks, but it's not. Everything feels really fucking nice. Highly recommend.

Ah, I'm glad to hear that. I was wondering whether to buy it, but I trust your taste.

Although I'm still in my Crusader Kings binge. I might see if I can get Europa Universalis 4 soon, so I can do a full 1000 year run.

If you liked the first one then you'll definitely like it. It's one of those sequels that expands on all the good things about the first game really well, and doesn't change too much of what there was before. The much wider variety in mutants is really nice too.

The Stealth has been dumbed down a bit though, but I love the costume design and the greatly expanded world, feels much more packed with detail and life compared to the somewhat empty and barren world of 2033.

Out of curiosity, what did everyone usually have for guns

>Silenced revolver with all the other fixins'
>AK with a red dot sight
>The six round shotgun with a extended barrel and red dot. Was my mutant blaster.

I stuck with the silenced IR sight pistol carbine for aaaaaaages, dropped it when ammo started become a problem on the surface.
Currently rolling with the four-barreled shotgun, a silenced, scoped assault rifle and a hellsing with a laser sight and the upgraded air pressure thing.

That shotgun ruins days like it's going out of style.

I remembered you mentioning the costume design before I got the game and I haven't been able to find it, how do you do it?

By costume design I mean the NPC skins and outfits.

Probably the best post-apocalyptic style I've seen, and I'm a sucker for that sort of thing.

I wouldn't say scary, but it can get really tense- especially fighting mutants.

There's a horrible part in Last Light where you have to wait for an elevator as mutants come in, ammo was so scarce I ended up having to rely mostly on mines and throwing knives to kill them.

Scarce ammo, I like that a lot. How does weapon modification work? Are you constantly underpowered? The good kind of underpowered where you're scared all the time? Is there any crafting or anything like that?

Which game are you talking about? 2033 or Last Light?

In the first game you trade guns in (with bullets making up the difference) for guns with different modifications and attachments, in the second you buy the attachments separately. There's a bit more variety as well.

I dunno if I'd say underpowered, it took me 2-3 shots with the shotgun to kill most unarmoured mutants until I got the 4-barreled Duplet and people usually go down to headshots. I played on normal difficulty, mind. I've heard it's a lot more on ranger hardcore.

You're gonna love the part with the spider mutants.

Yeah, I was thinking of getting Last Light.
I've watched a few more videos and I think I'll probably give it a miss. It just doesn't look that fun to me, probably be a "if I find it for 15 dollars one day" kind of deal. Thanks for the info though.

I find 2033 is a bit clunky feeling for me on normal, but Ranger mode makes it far more fluid and dangerous. From what I've seen, Last Light looks the same.

It's basically if you want Russian weirdness in a concise Half-life 2 style narrative. If linearity isn't your thing, avoid.

Re: General Gaming Discussion Thread VI - My Bones are Parsley Now

Got Crusader Kings II the Old Gods because I was playing as Bulgaria then I got really interested in Bulgarian history and then found out that Bulgaria was insanely badass circa just-before-Old-Gods so I brought it and played as them.

The session lasted all day and was marred by the fact that half of Bulgaria is modern-day Hungary and the Old Gods features the Magyars as an unstoppable horde that's supposed to take the Hungarian basin regardless of your ability so they steamroll me and I lose half my nation straight away. I also find that the way they've made Hungary work in this game means that the fact that they're capable of straight away conquering the Kingdom of Hungary means they're a superpower I cannot contend with so I'm never getting those lands back. Plus Hungary has used that massive army to conquer nearly all of south Russia-area so now they've got an even bigger army from all those levies so I'm kinda stuck.

Add that to the fact that my best king went comatose, died and his son and heir was murdered in a plot in the space of a month and said heir's younger brother was set upon by two scheming great-aunts with pretences to the throne of Bulgaria meant the entire country revolted, I was reduced to Count of my capital province and then that was taken from me. The result being that this little kid was now landless and so powerless as to for some reason no longer count as being my player character so I suddenly switched to some random duke-cousin. That was weird and annoying.

I quit at that point since everything was so stressful and insane that I couldn't for a second fathom what to do and I was very angry with the whole thing (not an "OMG O.P." angry but rather "CURSE YOU AUNT AGATHA, YOU ARE THE RUIN OF ME" foiled-again kind of anger). I'm gonna look at it again tomorrow evening and decide if it's worth reloading from before my awesome kind went into a coma or if I should grit my teeth and try and reclaim the kingdom of Bulgaria before my moron aunts declare war on the Byzantine empire or something.

I'm annoyed you can't play with the start date in Old Gods. It's 867 or whatever and not a day later than where they've set it. I could have played around and seen that Bulgaria is basically caught between Hungary and Byzantium and are in an untenable position.

Yeah, I found that was a bit annoying myself. What if 899 holds unexpected delights? It's obviously so they don't have to sync the history up with each year, they can just have events for certain years. They might patch it later.

Play as Pagans. It's a very different gameplay style.

Prototype 2 had a surprisingly good storyline and main character.

Whereas the first game had the problem of Mercer complaining about morality in cutscenes while murdering everything he sees in gameplay, Heller is driven by more selfish motivations, and most of the moral considerations he makes throughout the game reflect that selfishness. He's not a moral man, but he can be driven to do the right thing. He also has some awesome comments to make.

The story, despite having a twist here and there, was that good kind of simple where they didn't try to overcomplicate things. They could have easily done what so many other people do when you have a main character who seemingly has a great destiny thrust upon him for no reason and just had the bad guy in the end go "By the way, it was totally not a coincidence that all this happened to you!" but the game showed restraint and was in the end pretty satisfying.

Gameplay was much tighter this time around, side mission much more interesting (my favorite was when you're masquerading as a helicopter pilot meant to evacuate a couple of scientists so that you can devour them and get their knowledge and memories, but eventually you get so sickened by the fucked up shit they talk about doing that you literally just go "fuck it, I'm not eating you disgusting assholes" and just bail out of the heli, letting them die in the crash), control scheme not at all as fucked up as in the first game. The game can still tire you out on it very fast, which was one of the things I disliked with the first game the most, but all in all, an improvement in every single way over the first game.

For some reason the internet really likes Alex Mercer.

I don't know why. He doesn't have a personality at all. He's not even all that cool. He's dressed like a douche. There's literally nothing compelling about him unless you're an emo thirteen-year old who thinks hoodies and brooding is cool.

"FUCK YOU FUCK YOU FUCK YOU HELLER. YOU SHOULD HAVE BEEN KILLED!!!! ALEX WAS FUCKING BADASS!!! I HOPE YOU DIE IF THERES A NEXT GAME, SHITHEAD"

"ALEX FOR LIFE YOU BITCHES!!"

The fuck is wrong with these people? Heller has a line were he says "You're gonna tell me where my daughter is - either on your own or after I skull fuck you and drain your memories from the hole". And you think pancy-ass emo Mercer is a badass?

I seriously don't get people who become conspiracy-level obsessed with things that are really just mediocre and poorly thought out.

Not Barry Pepper's finest acting role, to be sure. 2nd one is better indeed. And somehow even more disgusting.

I miss that they cut down on the stats though. I liked knowing I had personally killed 20,000 marines.
