I read an interesting article about why people always hate women like Skyler on tv. It's because they never do anything. All they do is react t things others do. They don't take charge and act. All Skyler does is react to Walter and his actions. All her actions are started as reactions of others. She doesn't start things herself, all she does is judge you.

The article also points out that it's perfectly realistic that someone like Walter would fall for someone like Skyler

I absolutely adored Mr. Fox. It was super sweet and funny as hell. The characters had depth and you got to know all of them. Plus you can't go past a film with Bill Murray. Within 20 minutes it became one of my favourite films.

Yeah I loved it too. Though with his newer films I find sometimes Anderson's aesthetic is so exaggerated that it feels like he's skittering into self parody.

Anyone seen Lilyhammer? I started watching it expecting a wholly awful and all together different kettle of fish but actually.... It's pretty fucking amazing. Hilarious, punchy with witty mockery of cultural differences as well as satire of mafioso stereotypes. It's good.

In non-literal terms, Tony Soprano moves to Scandinavia because he saw it on the Winter Olympics in the nineties, it's pretty amazing stuff.

For example: Silvio from the Sopranos is unemployed in Norway so he goes to apply for Job seekers.

"I used to work in the 'Restaurant' business... capiche? I got a lotta experience in heavy liftin' etcetera etcetera I been thinkin' a settin' up my own bar actually"

"Ah you could haaf a problem there. In Norway, there are many obstacles you must get through before starting your own bar."

"I'm gonna stop ya there cus I get where ya goin'. *slides envelope over the desk* you would have any trouble from me, boss."

"I tink you are mishtaken..."

"It's all there daddy-o, 20 big ones oughta help out any obstacles"

"Are you trying to bribe me? That is against the law."

"Hey easy mac! No need to make any calls, that's just how we do things in America!"

Yesterday I powered through an entire season of The Simpsons (which was fucking brilliant). Today I have nothing to do but stare at a monitor, so I may as well watch something else funny.

For some reason this got me thinking about a joke on The Simpson's today.

You know the one where Homer meets Mindy. You know where he has all those hallucinations and says the line:

"I really shouldn't of eaten that packet of powdered gravy I found in the parking lot."

Dya reckon that's a Heroin joke or am I just reading too much into it.

Looper was quite excellent. Reminded me a lot of Twelve Monkeys. A proper modern sci-fi, not just an action film set in the future.

Opinion's split on the make-up he wears but I liked it. It's mostly acting though, he does a good job imitating Bruce Willis' mannerisms.

And also it has this, which is terrifying. Spoilers.

Watched Rocky last night. It was enjoyable. Watched Rocky 4 today and it was fucking hilarious.

First one he climbs some stairs and it's an achievement and you care.

4th one he climbs a mountain in the 4th montage of the film and you're laughing at it.

I love it. When his wife showed up at the farmstead I expected a make up sex montage.

Without the time travelling element the movie was bad.

With the time travelling element it could have been awesome, but instead they told the viewers. "STOP THINKING ABOUT THE ONLY INTERESTING CONCEPT IN THIS MOVIE!".

*Spoilers*
Why did people have to close their own loops?
Why did people have to close loops at all?
Why did they have to execute Loopers?
Why did Bruce Willis's character disappear when JGL shot himself when that other guys legs and stuff all fell off?
Why didn't killing Bruce's wife cause a shitstorm?
Why did Bruce surrender to the guns in the future when he knew they couldn't shoot him?
Why did the hot farm lady stroke JGL's hair the same way his mother used to? (Did JGL have sex with his own mother producing the rainmaker, meaning the kid he saved was himself?)
Why didn't they work togethor to kill the rainmaker by abusing the time travel shit, Bruce could kill any of the kids and then if history wasn't changed inform JGL of his mistake so in the future he gets the right one?
etc etc

They explain why they're killed in the film: the future mob doesn't want to be associated with the assassins when they get to where their future is. They don't have to be killed, it's just done out of cautiousness.

Future Joe disappeared because Present Joe died instantly- with the other guy, they chopped off present him's fingers, nose, etc one by one, altering his past in stages to send him the message. Why they straight up didn't just kill present him if they had him I don't know, the filmmakers just wanted a cool scene.

Present Joe wanted to close his loop so the Gat men wouldn't come after him. And even after he stopped wanting to, he didn't think the kid had to be killed. He hadn't yet met the woman he'd marry so he had no inkling of the suffering he'd go through losing her, and he had no idea how terrible Rainmaker was going to be until he was emotionally invested in the kid and the mother.

That's a legitimate point about Joe's wife though.

One thing that really bothered me during the film was when Future Joe shoots that guy who's captured him. He's right in front of like six armed gangsters and manages to move into a room directly in front of him with all of them directly behind, and zero cover, grab two guns and kill everyone.

They just don't react to a guy getting shot, at all. Isn't it these guys' jobs to kill people? Like you'd think they're somewhat professional?

Yeah that fight scene was really unnecessary.

I just don't get why they'd kill the loopers. They know its the rainmaker sending them back, and he's no ally of theirs.

I really don't like the current direction Science Fiction is going, which is to say the direction of "Let's have an action movie but with a cool twist on the story which we'll explain with 'It's science!'" Looper hade time-travel, that Justin Timberlake whatever movie had artificially extending your life, Repo Men was about taking people's organs or whatever. Looper was more frustrating than most, though, because as Stinky said, they took the interesting concept of time travel and only used it to set up action scenes and the like. Their interpretation of time travel didn't make much sense either.

Primer is probably the most realistic time travel film out there, but it's confusing as fuck and full of technical jargon. And the acting is pretty lame.
