Horror movies

Post by MilkyFresh on Wed Oct 17, 2012 4:52 pm

Alright, so my room mate and I have watched a lot of horror movies this year... Like, a whole lot. Possibly most of them. As a result we're experiencing a bit of a dry spell and are looking for some high quality shit to fill the void. Subbies aren't an issue, about 70% of the shit we've watched has been Japanese. Goddamn gooks know how to be scary. Anyway, any suggestions?
Also, general horror movie discussion.

@Milky: He's good at what he does, I can't believe he directed Eastern Promises though. Why doesn't he do more films like that?

Me and Ebba are going to watch Rosemary's Baby, The Wicker Man, Dracula (1931) and Vertigo.

Might not all be what you're looking for but I find that an excellent thriller can really kick the shit outta you. And who can resist Bela Lugosi?

Rosemary's Baby isn't bad, but I thought it was kind of overrated. Wicker Man rocks (I assume you're talking about the original), I don't remember Dracula too well and I haven't seen Vertigo. I think it's mum's favourite Hitchcock movie though.

Also, nobody can resist Bela Lugosi.

Vertigo was recently voted the best film of all time, stealing the spot from Citizen Kane for the first time in decades.

And of course I speak of the original Wicker Man, with sexy Christopher Leeeee

Fuuuuuck Citizen Kane rocks. That isn't exactly an unpopular opinion, but holy shit that was a good movie. Saw it for the first time this year.
I shall download Vertigo immediately.

My room mate and I have a mild obsession with Christopher Lee and his endless badarsery. How can one man be so awesome at some many things?

Man Citizen Kane is amazing. Love that fucking film. So brilliant.

I find it sad that it perfected the idea of cinematography just a few decades after film was created, and now that we've advanced a hundred years since the invention of film it's virtually non-existant in mainstream cinema.

Yup. You know what I'm really loving this last decade? Michael J. Fox filming every action movie, and every sleek drama being filmed upside down from inside a glass bottom boat through a fish eye lens with a blue colour tint.

I forgot this thread existed & I made a new topic for it. But I just watched A Serbian Film (Geordie, it was thanks to Oliver) and fucking hell, it was horrific. If you feel like squirming and being mortified then this is the film to watch.

I just made this thread today, is this the third one? I should merge them probably. A Serbian Film is pretty fucked, but more importantly why would you ever follow Oliver's advice?

Isn't Oliver the one who thought it would be a good idea to join a lovable gang of ragamuffins and pickpockets? How did that work out for him? I hear he ended up in care with some rich dude...

@Topic: Antichrist is alright. You might enjoy it. I found it a bit self-indulgent and overall a bit too boring. Feels a bit over-edited like it's been cut down significantly not that I have an educated opinion or anything.

With Willem Dafoe? Looks like it's cut form the same cloth as Martyrs, not my type of film. Extreme gore masquerading as an art piece. I could be wrong, haven't seen it. All I've seen is some chick cutting her clit off.

That's the badger. And you have hit the nail on the head there. Fucking Furburt and Katzenjammer going on about it. YEAH I AIN'T AFRAID TO NAME YOU!

That is the only highlight. You might cringe a bit when a Willy D cums blood but to be honest it didn't feel like it was real enough to be scary if you know what I mean? I find supernatural thing a bit meh unless they are done right. Like The Omen II, once you know he's the Antichrist, the rest is just a matter of waiting for him to kill everyone.

I've pretty much stopped watching horror films in favour of watching hilariously bad ones. You seen [REC] 2 yet? Or the new Lady in Black?

Did you know that Ju-On: The Grudge isn't the first film in the series and it started as a telemovie just called Ju-On?

I much prefer twist-ending movies. The 90's produced some damn fine ones, along with all the Will Smith action flicks that were going around. Twists + murder is usually my kind of film.

All good, just not my cup of tea. Just watched Irreversible. Piece of shit.

Okay horror movies I like:

The Thing
Ju-On
Noroi
Nosferatu the Vampyre
The Shining

And several others. I watch a ridiculous amount and dislike most of them. Why are film makers so shit at horror?

I think it's like the go-to genre for a lot of amateur film-makers.
Most of what we see doesn't even scratch the surface of how many shitty horror movies they are, if you ever end up in or have a friend going to Bali or Vietnam or somewhere like that pick up some random $2 bootleg horrors you've never heard of.
Everything you could ever get in Australia will be better than some of the shit you find there.

Downloading Noroi as I type. Gunna smoke a J, have dinner and get scared out of my skin while rapidly chewing on apples. Being occupied while watching horror is a must if I've been smoking. Plus apples will satisfy the sweet, sweet munchies.

Noroi is good shit. So I found this picture of /tv/'s favourite horror movies and saved it for some future material. Turns out I have watched a reaaally good chunk of it.
