First album you ever bought?

Post by Furburt on Sun Jul 01, 2012 1:06 pm

Saw a thing on facebook. Blah.

So what's the first album you ever done bought in yo whole life? By this I mean the first album that you consciously went "Yes, I want this" and procured the necessary money to do so.

Mine depends on who's asking, but since I have no reason to impress any of you (HAHAHAHA), my actual first album was ...And Then There Was X by DMX, which I bought when I was 10. I still don't really know why.

Naturally, I'm far more proud of the second album I ever bought, which was a copy of Big Black's Songs About Fucking on vinyl, which I bought in Scotland. Music nerd, awaaay!

I have London Calling on Vinyl as well, actually. Not mint condition, but an original pressing, thanks to my dad.

Another thing to listen to when you get over.

Sadly mine was Dido. Although due to me being a 10 year old with no musical knowledge, it turned out to be a single. I had one Dido song mixed differently to create 5 separate tracks.
And I'm no prouder of the second album I bought either. It was Kylie Minogue.

I must be one of the few people who don't buy albums.

I just cherry pick the best singles from my favorite artists.

I did that for a while, but then when you get into the really talented artists you realize that it's not just about the singles, but the entire experience an album gives you. A really talented artist does more than just put a bunch of songs on an album, they are often interconnected.

The first album I bought for that express purpose was The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars

Same here.

Shit, by the time I even really liked music I was well into torrenting already.

I agree with Hoob, I normally find that my favourite artists never produce a bad song and they are all equally worth listening to. Although it does take a while for some of them to grow on you.

@Joe: I forgot, I'm afraid. I'll be up there again before you arrive though, I'll try to remember.

@NightSwimming: Dido is my second cousin, I think.

Erm, most of the music I listened to as a youngun was already in the house due to my 16 year old sister and older brother.

The first album I brought was The Fray's How to Save a Life. God only knows why.

The first I bought was the Blue Brothers soundtrack, before that I owned Play by Moby on tape. Proud of both.
