Behold: The first game ever in the genre that Dear Esther and The Path are in

Post by owyn_merrilin on Fri May 04, 2012 6:56 am

This revelation was brought on by a thread on The Escapist about games you hate. My sister had a copy of this growing up, and I've never really analyzed it beyond "it's a dumb little game to keep toddlers happy," but thinking about it, it's got the same going from point A to point B with no actual gameplay in between style that a lot of modern art games have and are highly praised for. One of the stranger things I've realized at 2 in the morning.

Dear Esther isn't a game, it's a bad novel where you move a thumbstick to turn the pages.

It's probably better in person than as an LP.

I tried to watch an LP, I spent hours looking for a SILENT LP where some gawky cunt DOESN'T squawk over the key narration, finally found one - but the lack of interaction basically meant I was listening to an audio book that had 5 minutes of walking sounds inbetween each paragraph.

From what I did hear, the spoken narration was erotically pleasing to the ears in both narrative and literal sense.
