Yeah, I really dislike the idea of the husks being major enemies. Mostly because their ugly appearance screams "generic space horor creature". I also hate how the power of the reapers was nerfed just because Bioware realized in hindsight that setting up a battle between you and a million world-eating, fleet-destroying mecha Cthulhus was a bad idea, and needed to balance that shit out to give Earth a chance of survival.

Oh don't fret. I'm sure Bioware will come up with a poorly though-out, illogical explanation for this that contradicts previous lore establishments.

I'm willing to bet Reaper indoctrination on some authority level.

Unsure why the footsoldiers would give their lives for the cause of....dying anyway?

Better idea, add in a faction of extremists made up from different races. Like the kinda people who want a doomsday. Mix up the enemy's so you're against Asari biotics, Volus techs and Salarian scientists. I would certainly be worried if I had to focus on a Krogan, a few humans and different classed alien types - all with different defences and weaknesses. That'd be more tense than ALIEN ZOMBIE RUSH

Actually, me and Ben (mostly Ben) had a pretty good idea about what Mass Effect 3 could do to stave off series rigor mortis, make the Reapers a credible enemy and totally shock everyone.

Earth gets blown up in the first few missions.

It would incite much more of a powerful emotional response than little things like the death of a child, because everyone on Earth can relate to seeing their home planet destroyed. It establishes the reapers as an almost unstoppable enemy that it'll take the whole galaxy to be able to stop, if at all, and it adds a whole new spin on the ME universe. Suddenly the humans are on par with the Quarians, a refugee species.
They get cut more slack by the Batarians and Turians than they usually would, but they're still without a home, and nothing can change that. It follows the well worn but very effective Empire Strikes Back formula of Campy Sci-fi adventure + Harrowing series of losses and setbacks without a fully positive conclusion = Critical acclaim and entry into cultures collective memory.

Re: Mass Effect 3

Really, why do we need cannon fodder?

Shepard is the only one that can save the galaxy because she knows. It's not because she's a badass at shooting stuff, it's not because she has attitude and can persuade people to see her way: It's because she knows about the reapers. More than anyone else.

So why not have Shepard go on a mission nobody else is willing to go on? Maybe everyone else wants to unite against the Reapers, and think it's a waste of time to look for other methods of beating the Reapers. But Shepard doesn't budge, and takes the Normandy on a final mission to find a way to beat the Reapers.

Explore new worlds and follow a Prothean trail to a weapon that can beat the Reapers. All the while deal with your crew's and your own doubts about whether this mission can ever succeed in accomplishing your goals.

The problem is that Mass Effect 3 looks like Bioware trying to play it safe. Same structure that they always have. Sudden crisis, go on a journey, gather forces, come back, fix crisis. That Bioware RPG cliché chart looks like it'll be just as prevalent here as it is in their other games. Take some risks, try some new storyline structures, make already established characters deeper rather than arbitrary "Hey look at me I'm in this game" cameos that last the entire game.

I'm not saying this would automatically be a better idea than what they are going for with Mass Effect 3. But it's thinking outside the box. It's giving a story that nobody expected.

I really like the idea of Earth being destroyed early on. It would make for a damn good revenge plot. Even thought I know nothing of the Mass Effect universe.

You could also end the game with several planets being completely destroyed, and it ends with the Reapers losing but not being completely annihilated. Then the game ends with Shepard on the Citadel saying some badass shit like:

"They'll be back... But next time, the galaxy will be prepared"

THEN TONS AND TONS OF SEQUELS

I'd laugh if they set it up as if they're gonna show Tali's face then suddenly cut to black, Soprano's style.

@Furb 'n' Hub: Both of those sound like pretty sweet ideas, but I doubt they'd blow up Earth.

Actually, I think Fem Shep should be the default Shepard.

Which is the most interesting character: Cliché and predictable male hero, or middle-aged battle-hardened female who doesn't take shit from noone and tramples sexism like an elephant tramples fucking twigs.

Fem Shep is such a badass. The 22nds century's Ripley.

Sheploo is best Shepard.
There is absolutely no way around this. Femshep could be the baddest ass in the known universe, Batman with a vagina, but Sheploo will still be the protagonist of Mass Effect.
It's a pandas are gay thing. It just is.

That doesn't mean I'm not going to play as Femshep in ME 2 and fuck Garrus' spiky space-lizard dick off. UNF.

@hub: We need cannon fodder because otherwise what would you shoot?

Some of the best moments of ME2 were holding the line against collectors. Granted Husks are not nearly as menacing, but we need something.

Also I approve of earth going kablamo. Would take balls that Bungie didn't have.

While we're here, I also want the opportunity for players to continue their romances with Jacob, Thane, Jack and Miranda. Those who chose Garrus or Tali or stayed faithful will get their romance continued in 3, but from what we know so far - those who are with the above four may not get their cheesy sex scene at all!

If it wont do any of you know anywhere that isn't sold out?

I've tried Amazon and play.com, GAME isn't stocking it.
